Inspiring the Next Generation
The event was well attended by students, parents, and a wide range of inspiring role models from industry and academia. Professor Ivan Browne DL FFPH OBE joined us to present prizes for the best PASS student STEM projects and to thank the dedicated teachers who continue to support young people’s learning. During his address, Professor Browne reflected on the teacher who first sparked his own interest in STEM, highlighting the lasting impact educators can have on future careers.
We were also pleased to welcome Professor Clive Fraser, who spoke to attendees about the range of STEM opportunities available at university and the pathways open to young people. Mrs Nemaura, a computer scientist, engaged students in a discussion about emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence, while The Space Centre and other organisations provided information, hands-on activities, and resources to encourage curiosity and exploration. Many other STEM role models were present throughout the day, offering encouragement, advice, and support to young people.
Mrs Walters-Nisbett, Science Lead for Phoenix Agenda Supplementary School, has coordinated the event since its inception in 2020. She spoke about the importance of STEM fairs in providing information, guidance, and inspiration - particularly in areas where African heritage communities are often underrepresented. She also highlighted the valuable collaboration with the PASS Social Action Project, through which young people contributed additional content linked to the presence of Black people in the curriculum.
We look forward to PASS STEM 26 and continuing to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.
