About Our School

The Phoenix Agenda was established to address the underachievement of African heritage children in Leicester City schools. Around ten years ago, the Government identified shortcomings in local schools’ ability to support certain communities, and in response, The Phoenix Agenda was founded in 2011. Its initial focus was to support African heritage families and communities in Leicester and to respond to these concerns at both community and government levels.
Originally set up as a Social Enterprise, The Phoenix Agenda began working with a city school to develop strategies aimed at raising the achievement of targeted groups. This included hosting Presentation Events to build self-esteem and celebrate African heritage achievement in schools.
Following the publication of a Leicester City Council report in 2018, led by the Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Commission, entitled “The Underachievement of African Caribbean and White Working Class Pupils”, The Phoenix Agenda recognised the need for more sustained support. This led to the establishment of Phoenix Agenda Supplementary School in October 2019.
Today, we operate as a Community Interest Company (CIC), continuing our mission to provide educational support, guidance, and opportunities to African heritage students in Leicester.
